We received the Arcteryx Alpha AR Jacket a few weeks ago, the carbon version. First idea that came to my mind was, damn its light. Its designed for Climbing, Alpine and extreme conditions. It is a hardshell jacket, so its meant to be the top layer in bad weather. I do recommend sizing up for your hardshell only due to the reason that you will normally wear a few other layers under.
Arcteryx Alpha AR Jacket
What I can say its been used for daily use, back and forward on the island, and we have had some thunderstorms, its working perfectly fine in those conditions, it keeps the rain out and it breathes. On this jacket is all about the small details you only notice when you are out climbing or in alpine conditions, as the stormhood is made perfect with use for helmet, on the bottom of the jacket there is a hemlock for the harness. There is also another brilliant detail on the jacket, and that’s the front pockets, as when you are up in a rope its easy to reach your left pocket with your right hand and the other way around. This may sound unimportant, but it makes you keep your body in balance, as you use the other hand to hold the rope, its all about the physics.
I will add more of my personal opinions about the jacket as soon as it have been tested more, I just had to share my first impression as I am honestly in love with the Arcteryx Alpha AR jacket.
